Exterior Foundation Problems
Your home is your biggest investment. It protects you from storms, keeps you warm in the Winter and cool in the Summer. It helps to make memories for you and your family. These things would not be possible without a good foundation. The foundation of a home, however, is only as good as the soil or ground it is built on. Over time, the ground beneath your home can settle or erode causing the foundation to shift. The movement of the ground can damage the structure of your home.
Identifying Exterior Signs of Foundation Issues
There are several identifiers on the exterior of your home that you can look for to tell whether your foundation is shifting. These signs are as follows:
- Chimney leaning or separating from your home – Chimney may start to lean and separate from your home due to settling. This can cause cracking in the chimney to allow water to come into the home undetected.
- Crack in exterior wall – The foundation of your home may start to shift and settle that form cracks in your brick and block causing other major problems with windows, doors, floors, steps, interior walls and water problems.
- Helical Pier System – Piers are driven with a rotating force that screw into stronger more suitable soil as a solution for your sinking foundation.
